Power outages happen as they can be completely random and unexpected. When the power is out, it means your pool pump will no longer work, which can lead to a number of potential issues if not rectified soon. The good news is there are a few things you can do to maintain your pool during a power outage.

1. The Breaker Should Be Off

If the power comes back on, then things can become chaotic when the settings on the devices that form part of your pool are not properly configured. Turning the breaker off ensures you can have more control over the functions of the pool when the power comes back on. It also ensures you have an opportunity to assess any problems with the pump, filter, and other devices before restoring power to the devices.

2. Get The Pool Experts On The Job

While it may be tempting to take on everything alone, you should know that pool service professionals understand what to do when there is no power. Get your local pool experts to inspect the pool and provide appropriate advice.

3. Get The Filter And Pump Lids Off

When water stands still during cold weather, it may freeze, which causes an expansion. In this case, the frozen water may push against the pump, filter, and other devices. This may cause damage. Removing the lid on the pump and filter ensures there is appropriate space for the water to expand if it freezes.

4. Open Up The Valves

Open the air relief valve. This valve can be found on the filter. By opening this valve, you reduce the pressure applied to the water, especially if it expands during the winter months.

5. Remove The Power Plugs

Removing the power plugs on the motor, pump, and other connected devices would also be useful. This helps to avoid problems as the water expands and reduces the risk of a surge when the power comes back on.

6. Remove The Motor Connections

Unplugging the motor from the pool and other parts adds extra safety. If the power comes in and there is a problem with the supply, such as a surge in the current that runs to the pool, it could blow the motor.
